Fun Things to do with Kids: Centre Island

Centre Island is a wonderful alternative to the hustle of urban life, especially for families with younger children. The island is just a ferry ride away, about ten minutes from Toronto. The Toronto Ferry Docks can be found at the foot of Bay Street and Queen Quay. With over 600 acres of land and more than 30 amusement park rides, the island is very kid-friendly.

Here are some fun things to do with kids on Centre Island:

-Go turtle-watching at the Franklin Children's Garden, inspired by the popular children's story
-Visit TD Storybook Place amphitheatre
-Take the kids for a fun hike on one of the many walking trails
-Feed the ducks
-Spend a few hours exploring the Centreville Amusement Park with its Ferris wheel, mini golf, train rides, and water slide.
-Choose a beautiful shady spot for a picnic; there are over 40 official picnic sites to choose from on Centre Island
-Rent a canoe or a kayak

-Sunbathe or just relax on the remote southern beaches of the island; they are supervised during the summer months
-Stop by the concession stands or restaurants for a bite to eat or a refreshing drink.
-Plan a visit to Far Enough Farm petting zoo and interact with a variety of animals including horses, sheep, donkeys, cows, and rabbits,
-Play frisbee golf
-Take advantage of the many beautiful bikeways. You can even rent a bicycle by the hour.
-Enjoy the quiet places and soak up the tranquility of nature while watching the impressive skyline of Toronto.

Even though Centre Island is mere minutes from the city, you will feel like you have found your own piece of paradise away from it all. When you're finished indulging the kids, you can quickly get back to the city for a gourmet dinner or even a show. It's the best of both worlds!
